What matters is striking the right balance between affordability and healthcare coverage options.
What Are Group Health Benefits, Exactly?
Group Health Insurance is purchased by you, the employer, and is then offered to eligible employees (and their dependents) as a benefit of working for you. In most cases, employers pay a portion of the premium with employees contributing the rest.
Which Businesses Are Eligible?
In order to qualify for PA Employee Benefits employers are required to meet the following regulations:
- At minimum 75% of employees must be employed in Pennsylvania
- Only 25% can waive coverage without having coverage from another source
- Employers must pay at least 10% of the premium
Small Business Tax Credit
If you are a small business in the state with fewer than 25 employees you may be eligible for the Small Business Tax Credit. Beginning in 2014, you may receive a credit of up to 50% of the premium for two years. Ask your agent at Joyce, Jackman & Bell Insurors for more information.
What Types Of Group Health Benefits Are Available?
There are several types of group plans available to local small businesses. Here are the most common:
This plan type will give your employees the security of lower-out-of pocket expenses and comprehensive coverage with very few headache inducing claim forms to fill out. All your employees have to do is choose primary care physician and any referrals to specialists will be covered.
PPO (Preferred Provider Organization)
This plan type is similar to an HMO, but requires employees to stay in-network when choosing a physician and services. Choosing to use an out of network provider may result in sky-high costs, so it would be best for them to stay within the preferred provider network.
This is an open access plan that will allow your employees to see any primary care physician or specialist without needing a referral. There is still a network of doctors for you to choose from, and there will be additional costs for going out of network, but not as high as with an HMO or PPO. This plan type is also one of the more expensive options, but does come with more flexibility.
Dental and Vision Coverage
Dental Insurance may be purchased as a standalone product or as a rider to your health insurance. Vision coverage is only available as an add-on.
