Here at Joyce, Jackman & Bell Insurors we like to support our community, especially the great organizations that work to help keep Pittston families up on their feet. Today, we wanted to take a moment to introduce all of you to a foundation that is close to our hearts - Miles for Michael, a non-profit group that helps to support local families battling cancers.
Miles for Michael was formed in honor of Michael Joyce, former president of Joyce Financial Group. Michael passed away in June of 2006 after a 14-month battle with head and neck cancer. During that time, Michael never asked anything for himself, but instead asked that his friends and family direct their support to other local families that might not be as well equipped financially to deal with the burdens of long-distance treatment.
Known throughout the Duryea area for his loving ways, Michael’s friends and family wanted to keep his spirit of generosity alive long after his death, and thus Miles for Michael was born. The Fund provides support for unexpected expenses such as travel, lodging, food, gas and tolls that helps to allow families to stay with their loved ones during treatment and recovery.
Each year, Miles for Michael holds a number of fundraising events; one of our favorites is the annual softball tournament. This year, the tournament will be held on July 19th at West Pittston Little League (5 West Street, West Pittston). There is a required entrance fee of $40, and all teams must sell at least 100 raffle tickets. As always, there will be awesome prizes in the raffle baskets – TVs, iPads, Kindle HDs, etc.
Miles for Michael has helped over 548 families since its inception in 2006. Together, we can help even more! Round up some friends and come participate in a great event.
