January 1st has come and gone and many Americans are still waiting on their healthcare benefits to come through. It was guaranteed by the government that if you applied for health insurance on or before December 15th you would have coverage by January 1.
Unfortunately, thanks to the many glitches in the state and national online healthcare exchanges, thousands of Americans who met the deadline are still waiting. While we are seeing more and more applications being processed each day, the timeline for coverage is still unclear.
Make no mistake though; the individuals processing your applications and coordinating coverage are hard at work trying to get you insured.
If you received confirmation that your application was processed, and a plan was successfully chosen, then even if you have not yet received a welcome packet or identification card, you can still go to the doctor and will be covered retroactively to January 1.
We understand that this is an inconvenience, and in some cases, a financial burden, but we will be happy to help you with any questions you may have regarding the claims process as you file them for any services performed prior to having coverage.
If you have not yet signed up for healthcare coverage, the deadline to do so for February is January 15th, and so on for each proceeding month. Our agents here at Joyce, Jackman & Bell Insurors are here to help you fill out the paperwork, or assist you with any questions.
March 31st is the final deadline for obtaining health coverage without being assessed the tax penalty for 2014. Refer to our blog post Obamacare: The Tax Penalty for more information.
